Dr. William Stallings has authored 18 titles, and counting revised editions, over 40 books on computer security.

Some of them especially the ones related to modular math weren't put in the lowest terms which makes them look more difficult than they are. All of this doesn't even begin to help when the author introduces an example it takes more examples to fully understand the first example.

This author needs an editor for the book that will make it easy to understand the principles and practice of cryptography and network security easy enough for a layperson to understand.

This book looks like it was just stamped through for publishing without any proof reading. It's a shame on Pearson and this Author to allow such a book to be published. I like the clarity of the prose, the use of examples, the systematic organization and the use of figures that enable the reader to check their understanding. I do not understand the negative reviews that complain about poor editing or the use of nested examples.

In the first four chapters, and Appendix G, I have not found any errors or garbled text.

In general, I am reading for an overview but, for example in the section on number theory, all the equations checked out. I think this is a good book if it is the textbook for a computer science course.

It reads easily and I didn't find it boring at all since the subject interests me. The text starts with simple concepts and builds up to more advanced concepts, just like a text book is supposed to do. This book is probably not an easy read for non computer science people, the pace might be too slow for people who already know lots about operating systems, and it might not go into enough details, but this is all typical for a text book on such a broad subject.

I give it 4 stars just because textbooks are so overpriced. One person found this helpful.

Poorly written and confusing. First chapter is good, but goes downhill after. Not great for an online only class. See all reviews.

This treatment gives the student a systematic and comprehensive understanding of the issues involved. Approximately problems reinforce material in the text and introduce new concepts and techniques at the end of each chapter. A solid yet easy-to-follow mathematical background provides a foundation to assess the relative strengths of various approaches without needing a prior understanding of number theory and probability.

This gives the student a clear understanding of the math required. Password protected instructor resources can be accessed here by clicking on the Resources Tab to view downloadable files. Registration required.
