I knew that there was a lot that I needed to change in order to be a godly husband but MAN this book showed me that I am nowhere close to where I need to be. By God's grace, I'll get there in due time. That's not to say that I did not benefit greatly from the first 2 parts as well because I most certainly did.

I encourage anybody who is single and preparing for marriage, married, or engaged to be married to make the investment and download this book. You will not regret reading this book.

Aug 01, Stephen rated it liked it. The Exemplary Husband did a reasonable job of assembling scriptures and topics together under the themes of marriage, responsibility, and Christ-likeness. At times, I felt that this book was very dry and impersonal.

Stuart Scott was very direct in his writing -- to the extreme of having several bulleted sections in each chapter to organize his thoughts. It wasn't so much the directness that I minded, but his approach lacked in ability to converse with the reader. However, every few chapters he w The Exemplary Husband did a reasonable job of assembling scriptures and topics together under the themes of marriage, responsibility, and Christ-likeness.

However, every few chapters he would do a fantastic job when his humanity showed through a bit.

I especially enjoyed the chapter on love. This book is not recommended for the reader looking for inspiration. It reads more like a reference book, and in that regard has a lot of topical content that is easy to find, with the added challenge to apply these Biblical principles to a man's life.

Allows us to compare ourselves, as husbands to our wives, to Jesus as our collective with the Church husband. We fall short on every mark, but get to repent and pray for growth. Jan 16, Vincent Ng rated it it was amazing. An excellent book recommended for everyone. It is written mainly for husbands, but young or older men would learn great and valuable lessons and also be challenged to think deeper about what God desires, the importance of relationships, and their selves.

Read it!

The book refers to Scriptures very often and is very applicable to a Christian in terms of dealing with issues Biblically. Nov 30, Tim Counts rated it it was amazing. THE go-to book for what it means to be a godly husband. I am forever grateful for the impact it had on me to grow in godliness as a husband.

The book is Bible saturated! It is not the best writing; at times it is wooden.

Feb 12, Joshua Horn rated it really liked it. I found this book to be a good explanation of what the Bible calls husbands to be, with a emphasis on the theology and not just practical advice. Overall I found the book to be helpful, especially the ways that he talks about how you need to deal seriously with your own sin.

I am striving to apply those in ways beyond what he was even speaking about. There's a couple things I disagreed with him on. One was kind of strange - a one sentence description of the Trinity and the relationship between one God and three persons that I thought was incorrect. Another that was repeated several times was his view that the commandment to "be fruitful and multiply" was not a commandment but more like some advice?

Hm Are You a Human?

Truly beneficial While I bought the kindle version to ensure I could read it as often as possible, I will now also need the paper version so I can more easily reference this in counseling sessions.

What an outstanding book! Sep 21, Paul Kurtz rated it it was ok Shelves: There is a lot of good information in this book, but it tends to be tedious and overwhelming. I think the overwhelming part was probably intentional to drive home the point that none of us is able to be the kind of husband we should be without God's help, but after a couple hundred pages of, "you're almost certainly a lousy husband," I'd had enough already.

There is enough valuable information in the book for it to be helpful and worth reading, but be warned that it won't be an easy read. Godly book Great book! This is a must read for every husband or husband to be! God bless Mr. Scott for hearing the Lord and delivering this lesson for all men. Aug 08, Isaac rated it really liked it. A helpful, thought-provoking book that any husband should, with Bible in hand, benefit from prayerfully meditating upon.

Nov 06, Matt rated it liked it.

Exemplary Husband | Stuart Scott

Good content, delivered in a very "systematic theology" way. Certainly not a fun or easy read, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but I believe that it was overall a worthwhile read for me. Nov 12, Robert Nassry rated it it was amazing.

I would recommend re-reading this book every year or so. As men we tend to get distracted by work and life. This book will keep you on track!

Feb 03, Diane Anderson rated it it was amazing. What a great tool and helpful guide for all christian men!!!!!!!!!!! I got a TON out of reading it for application regarding my own sin hangups. Dec 25, Doug Connell rated it it was amazing Shelves: Helpful, easy-to-read and discuss with someone else; any man who wants to know some concrete ways he can grow as a godly husband should read this book. Jan 30, John Gardner rated it really liked it Shelves: Stuart Scott, associate professor of biblical counseling at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and former pastor of family ministries and counseling at Grace Community Church John MacArthur's church —deserving of a spot on your bookshelf?

Sound Biblical Counsel This should go without saying, but sadly, it doesn't. So many books in the "men's ministry" section of most Christian bookstores seem loosely connected to vague spiritual principles, but otherwise are mostly filled with the advice and wisdom of men.

Some of those books can be very helpful—I've benefited from quite a few myself—but it is refreshing, and far more useful, to read books saturated with Scripture.

Scott grounds every aspect of his manual for biblical husbanding firmly in God's Word. There are books that have dug much deeper into particular aspects of marriage. At pages, there are certainly books that are quicker reads. But if I were looking to lead the men of a church through an accessible, comprehensive book on how to be a better husband, this would be high on my list.

The reality is that there are a great many struggling marriages in our churches today, and I appreciate that Scott assumes nothing about his readers. And so the first quarter of the book is essentially an overview of systematic theology, with application drawn at each point of doctrine to the role of a husband. To experienced readers of books on doctrine and marriage, this may seem tedious at times, but most men don't fit in this category.

Resource-Rich Appendices To be honest, for me the appendices may have been the best part of the book. That's not to take anything away from the text; but I'm much more likely to pull this book back off my shelf in the future to reference the sections in the back. I'm always on the lookout for tools that I think will help me to better lead my wife, and this looks like one that will fit the bill we intend to go through it on an upcoming date night.

Summary To be "exemplary" is to be a model for others to follow. We do this by following the perfect example set by Jesus Christ. Dec 26, C. Cobb rated it it was amazing.

It is divided into four major parts, each part making an important contribution to the whole. Scott does a great job with each of these, lays an adequate biblical foundation, provides examples, and then provides practical tips for putting each point into practice.

This is an outstanding resource that can be used on its own, or in a group or counseling setting. With this book, you have gathered in one place a biblical toolbox for men. Mar 03, Nathan Nicholas rated it it was amazing Shelves: This is an incredible book on leading the role of a biblical husband.

However, I wouldn't limit this book to only married men. This book is filled with Scripture I always highlight verses in books as references and a means of scaling how much Scripture is within them; I went through two highlighters that doesn't only pertain to husbands.

An ongoing theme of this book, in my opinion, is biblical manhood. While the focus is on biblical manhood in being a husband and a father, these are traits and This is an incredible book on leading the role of a biblical husband. While the focus is on biblical manhood in being a husband and a father, these are traits and commands that can be learned, prayed over, and worked on throughout any stage of life.

I would recommend this book to young men, men content in singleness, men seeking to date, men seriously dating, men who are engaged, newly-married men, or even men who have been married for years.

This book focuses heavily on being a husband for the glory of God but roots back to first and foremost being a man of God and seeking to follow God's biblical commands. This book is filled with many beautiful and convicting pieces.

There is much hope for men with struggles of any sort throughout this book as well. Praise God and His constant works in our lives.

All Christian men can be an exemplary husband for the glory of God and advancement of His Kingdom! This is a book I will have to return to and seek to read at least every year and a half. Lots of wisdom and truth within its pages!

Aug 17, Jefferson Romulo rated it it was amazing Shelves: If you are a Christian, you need to read this. If you are not, you need to read this! This books gets to the heart of how to be the right husband. The first chapter is so rich in preparing the heart of man for what is important in life. It's a tall hurdle to jump over but it's an essential one.

I downloadd this because many men in my church are reading it currently.
