This application contains the road rules that govern and guide traffic on the roads of Zambia. It is a complete Highway Code of Zambia application and works. This Publication serves as the “Highway Code Booklet of the Bahamas”. This Highway Code is primarily designed to help all road users be safe on the roads. Note: Although The Highway Code shows many of the signs commonly in use, a comprehensive explanation of our signing system is given in the Department's.

It is not always safe to drive at the highest speed allowed, even though the law permits you to do so.

In some cases such a speed is dangerous. Only unwise persons can drive fast enough to be dangerous. Car sense is the ability to get the best out of your car; it entails smooth and thoughtful operation of the controls with hands and feet. This can only be reached if the operations are carried out in good time.

Car sense adds to your safety. Use the horn to give warning only. Use the signals given in the Highway Code. An incorrect signal is misleading and always dangerous.

You are in the left-hand lane at traffic lights. You are waiting to turn left.

You see this amber traffic light ahead. Which light or lights, will come on next?

Red and amber lights showing together also mean stop. You may proceed when the light is green unless your exit road is blocked or pedestrians are crossing in front of you. Be ready to slow down and stop.

You see this sign ahead. Stopping where these restrictions apply may be dangerous and likely to cause an obstruction.

Restrictions might apply for several miles and this may be indicated on the sign. You may be going faster than you realise. Slow down and look out for speed limit signs. Also check the pavements for anyone who looks like they might step or run into the road. At a railway level crossing the red light signal continues to flash after a train has gone by.

What should you do? If a train passes but the lights continue to flash, another train will be passing soon. Cross only when the lights go off and the barriers open. It is there to warn you of oncoming traffic.

After overtaking, move back to the left when it is safe to do so. Where would you see this road marking?
